The Management of Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has taken swift action in response to recent reports of theft in some student hostels, specifically the NDDC Hostel, and Hostels C, F, and H.

In a press release dated August 1, 2025, the Registrar, Mrs. I.B.S. Harry, disclosed that two students were apprehended within the week for stealing in Hostels C and F.

A female student in Hostel C was caught stealing money and clothing, while a male student in Hostel F was found in possession of a stolen laptop. Both students have been evicted from the hostels, handed over to their parents, and will face the Students Disciplinary Committee for further action.

The University Security Unit responded promptly to these incidents, and proactive measures have been taken to prevent future occurrences. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, visited Hostel C on August 1, 2025, and directed that a security post be erected in front of the hostel immediately.

Additional security operatives were deployed in the vicinity, and protective gadgets were installed around the drainage close to the hostel.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged the porters to be vigilant and screen all visitors to the hostel. The Management of the University assures all students, staff, and parents that their safety is guaranteed and calls on everyone to remain calm and vigilant.

The School Security and Security Agents are actively deployed throughout the hostels and campus to deal with any further incidents.
