THROUGH THE STORM: ADVANCING BY MERCY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES

THROUGH THE STORM: ADVANCING BY MERCY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES

The journey of life has never been a race of speed, nor a contest of strength. As the scripture rightly declares in Ecclesiastes 9:11, the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but time and chance happeneth to them all. Yet, beyond time and chance, there is a higher force, the mercy of God, that overrides human limitations and rewrites destinies.

Today, we find ourselves in a world that is rapidly shifting. In Nigeria especially, the tides have turned in ways that challenge faith, resilience, and hope. Economic instability, rising cost of living, insecurity, and uncertainty have become part of daily conversations. In Rivers State and across the nation, many households are feeling the weight of these changes. What used to be manageable has now become a struggle for survival.

But even in the midst of all this, one truth remains constant. God has not changed. His mercy still speaks. His power still saves. His presence still restores.

1. A PERSONAL REFLECTION: SEEING THE SHIFT

In recent times, I have observed a concerning shift, not just in society, but within the body of Christ. There was a time when believers were deeply rooted in prayer, when seeking God was a daily necessity and not an occasional activity. But today, distractions have taken center stage.

Many are overwhelmed by the happenings around them. Social media, economic pressure, and the pursuit of survival have slowly replaced the altar of prayer. The fire is no longer burning as it used to, and only a few remain steadfast, holding on to God with unwavering faith.

This is not a condemnation but a wake-up call. Because if there was ever a time we needed God more, it is now.

2. GROWING UP VS NOW: A CHANGING NARRATIVE

Growing up as a child, Nigeria was not perfect, but it was manageable. There was structure, there was hope, and there was a sense of stability that gave people confidence about tomorrow.

Today, the narrative has changed. The struggles are louder, the uncertainties are deeper, and the future seems less predictable. Yet, the Word of God reminds us in Proverbs 29:2 that when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

This scripture resonates strongly with the realities we see today. But rather than dwell in despair, it should stir us into action, both spiritually and physically.

3. THE CALL TO RETURN: PRAYER, FASTING, AND DEPENDENCE ON GOD

If we truly desire change, it will not begin in government offices or economic policies. It will begin in the place of prayer.

God is calling His people back to the secret place, back to the altar, back to fasting and consecration, and back to total dependence on Him.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the instruction is clear, that if His people who are called by His name will humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, then He will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land.

The healing of Nigeria is tied to the posture of believers. We cannot afford to be passive. We must become intentional, daring, and relentless in our pursuit of God.

4. DOING A NEW THING: THE DEMAND OF THIS SEASON

The scripture in Isaiah 43:18–19 declares that we should remember not the former things, for God is set to do a new thing and it shall spring forth.

But to experience a new move of God, we must be willing to do new things for God. The times we are living in require believers who are bold in faith, ruthless in prayer, disciplined in action, and unshaken in conviction.

This is not a season for lukewarm Christianity. It is a season for intentional spirituality and purposeful living.

5. BUILDING THROUGH THE STORM

Even in hardship, God releases ideas. Even in chaos, God births solutions. Even in darkness, light still shines.

Those who remain connected to God will not only survive, they will build, thrive, and influence. Divine ideas will be made manifest, strategies will be revealed, and doors will open where none existed.

As it is written in Isaiah 26:3, God will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him. Peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of God in the midst of them.

6. A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Do not give up. Do not lose your faith. Do not allow the pressures of life to silence your prayer life.

Hold on to God more than ever before. Seek Him diligently, trust Him completely, and rely on His mercy daily. Because at the end of it all, it is not by power, not by might, but by His Spirit.

And truly, the journey is not to the swift, the race is not to the strong, only God shows mercy.

7. FINAL CHARGE

Rise up and return to prayer. Engage in fasting. Stand in faith and act with purpose. Because the future belongs to those who remain steadfast in God.
