RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTS CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION, EMPHASIZES IMPORTANCE OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT

In a bid to commemorate the 2025 Children's Day celebration, Rivers State University (RSU) held a grand event that brought together over 500 children from various schools. The theme of the celebration was "Tapping the Untapped Natural Treasure" with a sub-theme "A day to laugh, learn and shine."

The Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, in his speech, described children as the most valuable resource of any nation. He urged the society to prioritize the development and well-being of children, reaffirming the university's commitment to supporting institutions and initiatives that focus on child development.

Prof. Zeb-Obipi specifically mentioned the International Secondary School (ISS), Staff School, Rivers State University Women Association, and its Education Center (RiSUWA) as key partners in this mission. He encouraged the children to believe in themselves and their full potential, saying, "To our children, I say: Believe in yourselves, explore your passions, and never stop learning. You are the treasures of our nation, and your potential is limitless."

The Wife of the Vice-Chancellor and President of RiSUWA, Dr. Victoria Zeb-Obipi, in her welcome address, stated that the national theme "Tapping the Untapped Natural Treasure" captures what every conscious parent, leader, and educator must reflect on. She explained that children are bursting with potential, creativity, and intelligence, but unless there is a deliberate investment in their education, moral development, and environment, their potential will remain untapped and even wasted.

She thanked staff of the university for their tireless commitment to the mission and values of the university, noting that the celebration is a way of giving back – to recognize and appreciate the staff not only for their professional efforts but also for the families that support and surround them, especially the children, who she described as pride and hope for the future.

The Registrar of the university, Mrs. I. B. S. Harry, in her goodwill message, admonished the children to be God-fearing, obedient, and worthy ambassadors, while also encouraging the children to have a fun-filled day and celebration.

The celebration featured various fun activities, including ceremonial cutting of the children's day cake, sack race, face painting, balloon modeling, speed stacking game, open play with bouncing castle and lots of other interesting fun games and competitions.

The event was a resounding success, with the children in attendance having a wonderful time. The university's commitment to supporting and nurturing children was evident in the celebration, which was a testament to the institution's dedication to the development and well-being of children.

The Rivers State University Women Association (RiSUWA) and its Education Center played a crucial role in organizing the event, which was attended by staff children and children from various schools.

As the university continues to prioritize the development and well-being of children, it is expected that the institution will remain a leader in promoting the welfare of children in the community.
