We shall continue our community engagement to sensitize residents and build the culture of proper waste management, - Dr Ibimina Wokoma, MD - RIWAMA.

In line with RIWAMA's core objective to foster a culture of responsible waste disposal, the Managing Director of Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Dr. Ibimina Wokoma, recently engaged with some communities in Obio/Akpor local government area to raise awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal practices.

The sensitization effort aimed to discourage indiscriminate dumping on medians and other unauthorized areas. Speaking during the meeting with the Traditional Council of Chiefs in Woji, the RIWAMA MD disclosed that many diseases we see today are products of improper waste management; he said not all waste generated by residents should be sent to the receptacle... "the waste we send out from our homes has economic value, that is why scavengers go for them, residents can reduce the Volume of waste they bring out by sorting their waste."

The MD affirmed RIWAMA's commitment to improving waste management infrastructure and services in the community. Dr. Wokoma also approached the Council of Chiefs with a request for a land space to construct a standard waste receptacle to achieve this objective.

The Eze Woji, HRH, EZE, SIR, DR, AMB, EMEKA G. IHUNWO JP.FCAI, Nyenwe-Eli Woji paramount ruler of Woji community and Council of Chiefs expressed delight at the initiative and affirmed their willingness to partner with RIWAMA.
