The Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has sounded the alarm over the deplorable state of the Ado-Ijan Road, warning that the university and other establishments along the route may become inaccessible if urgent action is not taken.

According to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Olasupo Ijabadeniyi, the road has become impassable, and it is only a matter of time before it becomes completely unusable. He urged both the Federal and Ekiti State governments to urgently reconstruct the road and complete the Ado-Ekiti Cargo Airport.

*A Call to Action*

Ijabadeniyi noted that the founder of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, had previously intervened in the maintenance of the road from 2009 to 2019, but further support has exceeded his capacity due to numerous projects he has undertaken across the state. The Acting Vice Chancellor emphasized that the maintenance of the road and the functionality of the airport is beyond the capacity of the university's founder.

*ABUAD's Achievements*

Despite the challenges posed by the road, ABUAD has continued to excel, recently ranking 84th globally in the Times Higher Education ranking of universities and third in Africa. The institution has also ranked first in Africa in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7) and Climate Change (SDG 13).

The university's Acting Vice Chancellor expressed delight over the recent ranking, stating that it is a dream come true for the institution and its founder. He attributed the achievement to the cooperation of regulatory bodies, parents, and the commitment of staff.

*A Plea to Government*

The university's management is urging the government to take immediate action to reconstruct the Ado-Ijan Road and complete the Ado-Ekiti Cargo Airport. Ijabadeniyi emphasized that making the university more accessible would attract patronage from both local and international audiences, bringing more laurels to the state and nation.
