Thousands of protesters, led by the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, took to the streets of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to demand the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and an end to the emergency rule imposed on the state. The protesters, comprising men and women from diverse backgrounds, gathered on major streets, including Aggrey and Azikiwe roads, to express their grievances and make their voices heard.

The demonstration marked a notable shift, as men joined forces with women, who had previously been at the forefront of the protests. The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions, including "Reinstate Governor Fubara Now" and "End Emergency Rule in Rivers State." They chanted slogans in support of their embattled governor, whom they described as a "peace-loving leader."

Prince John Tamunokuro, President of the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, addressed the press during the protest, appealing to President Tinubu to intervene and reinstate Governor Fubara. "We urge President Tinubu to listen to the cries of the Rivers people and restore Governor Fubara to office," Tamunokuro said. "The emergency rule has gone on for too long, and it's time for a return to normalcy."

Tamunokuro also expressed support for President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, encouraging Rivers people to collaborate with the federal government to drive development and progress in the state. "We support Governor Fubara, but we also believe in the Renewed Hope Agenda," he said. "We urge Rivers people to work together with the federal government to drive development and progress in our state."

*PROTESTERS' DEMANDS:*

- Reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara

- End to emergency rule in Rivers State

The protest sent a strong message to the federal government about the determination of the Rivers people to have their voices heard and their demands met. The outcome of the protest remains to be seen as the situation continues to unfold. However, one thing is certain: the people of Rivers State will not be silenced.
