Ibas Urges Workers to Prioritize Rivers State's Interests
Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on workers in the state to prioritize the state's interests, reaffirming the administration's commitment to improving working conditions and addressing workers' concerns.
In a Workers' Day broadcast, Ibas restated promises made during a meeting with labour union leaders, including active consideration for implementing the N32,000 consequential adjustment for pensioners and clearing outstanding gratuities. He also highlighted efforts to review the Contributory Pension Scheme's implementation challenges ahead of the July 2025 deadline.
The Sole Administrator commended workers for their dedication to service, emphasizing the administration's recognition of their critical role in development. "This administration recognizes workers as critical partners in development. We remain committed to addressing your legitimate concerns within available resources," he stated.
Ibas also announced the reintroduction of intervention buses to ease workers' transportation and the approval for payment of newly employed staff at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the Judiciary. Medical workers in Local Government Areas will now receive correct wages.
Specialized leadership training for top civil servants will commence within two weeks, further demonstrating the administration's commitment to capacity building and workers' welfare.
By prioritizing workers' concerns and pledging support, Ibas aims to maintain industrial peace and foster a productive work environment in Rivers State.
