Rivers APC Issues Ultimatum to Governor Fubara: Resign or Face Impeachment
In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara an ultimatum to resign from office within 48 hours or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
According to Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, Governor Fubara has disrespected President Bola Tinubu, who had attempted to proffer a political solution to the crisis in the state. Okocha stated, "As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressives Congress. He has disrespected Mr. President and we told him that we cannot be here and have him to disrespect Mr. President."
Okocha further claimed that the Supreme Court has validated the allegations against Fubara, providing more evidence to justify impeachment. "The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidences. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him."
The APC chairman emphasized that the 48-hour ultimatum is generous, stating, "48 hours is too much to give him as ultimatum. He should just resign honourably."
The governor's office has yet to respond to the APC's ultimatum. The situation is developing, and it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will respond to the APC's demands .
