Rivers State House of Assembly to Governor Fubara: Ditch Social Media, Follow Proper Channels

In a move that highlights the importance of protocol in governance, the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to properly extend invitations to its members, rather than relying on social media. This request comes after one of the lawmakers, Isaiah Opuende, representing Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, publicly criticized the governor for inviting Assembly members via social media .

The controversy began when Governor Fubara, having received the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgement, invited the Amaewhule-led members of the State House of Assembly to a meeting. While the meeting's agenda includes crucial items such as providing a befitting space for the Assembly's sittings, payment of outstanding remuneration or allowances, and presentation of the Budget, the manner of invitation has raised eyebrows.

A letter from the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, addressed to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, confirms that the meeting is scheduled for today at the office of the Governor in Government House, Port Harcourt. However, the Assembly's insistence on proper protocol underscores the need for respect and tradition in governance.

This development highlights the ongoing dynamics between the legislative and executive arms of government in Rivers State. As the meeting proceeds, it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will respond to the Assembly's request. One thing is clear, however: in the world of governance, protocol matters.
