Could Canada Hold the Key to the US Presidency?

A former US ambassador to Canada, Bruce Heyman, believes Americans living in Canada could swing the presidential election. Heyman, who served under President Barack Obama, is leading an effort to canvass and turn out American voters living in Canada to support Democrats.

According to POLITICO, Heyman thinks that in a close election, Americans in Canada could make the difference. With hundreds of thousands of potential US voters residing in Canada, Democrats are targeting key battleground states like Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The non-partisan Federal Voting Assistance Program estimates around 605,697 Americans in Canada are of voting age. Democrats Abroad, an arm of the Democratic Party, has launched a door-to-door campaign in Windsor, Ontario, and an ad blitz across Canada.

Experts like Richard Johnston, professor emeritus at the University of British Columbia, suggest that expats are disproportionately Democrat and could have a significant impact.
