Nigeria Clears Air on UN Council Snub_

The Nigerian presidency has issued a statement clarifying that the country was not snubbed in the 2024 United Nations Human Rights Council elections. According to Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Nigeria did not participate in the elections, and any votes attributed to the country were likely cast in error ¹. The presidency emphasized its focus on supporting endorsed African candidates to strengthen collective representation on the global stage. This move aims to quell damaging narratives that could harm Nigeria's international reputation. The UN Human Rights Council elections saw 18 new members elected for the 2025-2027 term.
