DHQ Warns Against Military Coup, Clarifies COAS Lagbaja's Leave
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a stern warning against calls for a military coup, describing them as treasonable under the law [Channels Television]. In a statement signed by Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the DHQ emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated.
The warning comes after a viral video surfaced online, with some individuals advocating for a military takeover. The DHQ clarified that Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is on annual leave and has not been replaced. Major General Abdulsalam Bagudu Ibrahim, Chief of Policy and Plans, is providing routine briefs to the COAS in accordance with standard military procedures.
The DHQ urged individuals spreading unfounded rumors to cease immediately, emphasizing that the COAS is hale and hearty and will resume normal duties at the end of his leave. The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) remains committed to preserving democracy and protecting the nation's integrity.
